Dispensing inspection: surface profile and process validation

Bead inspection can assess visible continuity, width, position and surface height. Images of opaque adhesive cannot directly verify internal bubbles, bond strength or leak-tightness. Quality inspection and robot dispensing-path correction are separate integration tasks; path correction needs calibration, control interfaces and process validation.

Application and selection guide

How to validate

Evaluate adhesive colour, transparency, curved-surface occlusions, dimensional limits and curing changes. Use leak or other functional tests for sealing performance. Large vehicle or battery-pack beads need a dedicated station rather than a standard P5 or P5D PCBA configuration.

This is a general industrial-vision evaluation guide, not a delivered IRIS ANT PCBA AOI case study or a standard machine configuration. The station must be qualified for the parts, optics and automation requirements.

Project evaluation checklist

  1. Define the item, visible inspection surfaces and minimum defects; separate appearance, internal structure and electrical or functional checks.
  2. Prepare verified good, defective and borderline samples across lots; separate training and acceptance sets.
  3. Report escapes and false calls by defect class, with review workload, complete cycle time and repeatability.
  4. Confirm program versions, permissions, retention and traceability fields; approve production only after trials pass.
